Match: Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan, 1st T20I
Date: 11th June 2022,
Time: 4:30 PM IST
Venue: Harare Sports Club, Harare
As demonstrated in the ODI series, Harare’s pitch is ideal for batting despite bowlers having some support. The batters will attack from ball one to maximise powerplay field restrictions. As the play goes, the surface might slow down, allowing spinners to influence the game. 160-170 is a reasonable total for the venue, thus both teams will try to bat first.
The sky will be overcast during the match, but there is not expected to be any precipitation.
Zimbabwe will want to be more competitive in the T20I series after a rather one-sided ODI series. Afghanistan, on the other hand, is a superior T20 squad with some real match-winners. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammed Nabi, Rashid Khan, and Hazratullah Zazai, for example, have competed in leagues like the Indian Professional League (IPL), the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and the Bangladesh Premier League (BBL). In the shortest format, Zimbabwe is a superior squad. Craig Ervine and Sikandar Raza, two of their most experienced players, are expected to lead the way with the bat. As both sides are eager to get the series off to a strong start, expect an exciting contest in Harare.

We don’t believe Afghanistan was as dominating in the first T20 encounter as it was in the ODIs. To win the game, the squad needed an outstanding performance by Najibullah Zadran in the ninth inning. However, we believe Afghanistan’s batting has a lot of potential, but it’s also fragile.
As the team got off to a fast start, the batting lineup was placed under duress as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai fell swiftly. A lot of us believe Zimbabwe can put a lot of pressure on Afghanistan’s batting order.
In the last match, Afghanistan used a somewhat different bowling lineup than predicted. Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi took the stage, but Mujeeb sat out the show. Amatullah, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Nijat Masood played well.
This is where Afghanistan has the greatest opportunity of regaining a commanding lead, since its bowling team has greater depth than Zimbabwe’s.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Hazratullah Zazai, Darwish Rasooli, Ihsanullah Janat/Usman Ghani, Mohammad Nabi (c), Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Fareed Malik, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi.
In Twenty20 cricket, Afghanistan is a formidable squad, and in their matches versus Zimbabwe, they have been quite successful. They have only lost one match versus Zimbabwe in a total of 12 competitions, making them the favourite to take home the trophy.
