Date: 3rd December 2023

Time: 7:30 pm IST and 2:00 pm GMT

Venue: Sir Vivian Richards Stadium – Antigua, Antigua And Barbuda

Pitch report

The Sir Vivian Richards Stadium should see a turn, although a modest one. We anticipate this pitch to be a little slow. A par result will fall between 295 and 305.

Weather Report

The temperature will be in the mid-to upper-20s throughout the game, with a combination of predicted cloudy and sunny spells. For the whole of the ODI, it will be pretty muggy.

Squad Comparison for West Indies vs England

West Indies

The West Indies had a lengthy hiatus after they could not earn a spot in the World Cup. The team’s final international match took place during India’s August trip of the nation. After a challenging year, the club hopes to close it out strong.

Shai Hope will serve as the team’s captain, and Alzarri Joseph will be his deputy. Hope will be essential to the batting lineup as the West Indies’ top run scorer. The team still has just one wicketkeeper, Shane Dowrich, who announced his retirement.

After nearly two years, Kjorn Ottley—who shone with the bat in the most recent Super50—has been called up for an ODI. Along with Shimron Hetmeyer, he will be a key member in the middle order. The remaining batters are Alick Athanaze and Brandon King.

Sherfane Rutherford, an all-rounder, will probably make his ODI debut and end up with a few significant runs. Yannic Cariah and Gudakesh Motie are the two spinners on the team; Matthew Forde, who has performed well in his recent domestic, will join Alzarri Joseph, Romario Shepherd, and Oshane Thomas in the seam department.

West Indies cricket has long since moved on from 50 Over cricket, and we’re not sure if slight roster adjustments will have any lasting impact.

West Indies Playing XI

Brandon King, Kjorn Ottley, Shai Hope (c) (wk), Shimron Hetmyer, Alick Athanaze, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Matthew Forde, Alzarri Joseph, Gudakesh Motie

England

One of the favorites to win the 2023 ODI World Cup was the reigning winner, England. Instead, it was one of their poorest World Cup campaigns, as the squad only won three of the nine games they played and came in seventh place overall.

All the same, England hopes to move over this setback and start over.

Jos Buttler will lead the team for the entire tour, but England has made some roster changes to bring in some new blood. In this match, Ollie Pope will probably make his ODI debut, standing at the top of the order alongside Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley.

The three England players who scored the most runs throughout the World Cup—Dawid Malan, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Adil Rashid, Moeen Alo, and Bairstow—have all been dropped. As an all-rounder, Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone continue to hold their position, and Harry Brook becomes an essential part in the middle order.

Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley will be used in the spin department, while Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, and Josh Turner make up England’s new seam attack lineup. This series will undoubtedly test the depth of English white-ball talent.

England Playing XI

Phil Salt, Zak Crawley, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Liam Livingstone, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Rehan Ahmed, Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, John Turner

West Indies vs England Match Prediction

Both sides enter this series with relatively modest expectations for themselves in this format, with the West Indies especially eager to make a quick impression following their failure to qualify for the Cricket World Cup in 2023. Even while we know that England is not nearly the same team as they were four years ago, we still think they have what it takes to win this ODI and take a 1-0 lead in the series in Antigua.
