Twelve days after being held goalless by Bristol City in the fourth round of the FA Cup, Nottingham Forest needed a penalty shootout to defeat the Championship club at home in a replay on Wednesday evening, following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.

Following a difficult run of form over the festive period, Newcastle appeared to have turned a corner after winning three of four games in January, but the Magpies were held to a thrilling 4-4 draw by Luton Town at St James’ Park last weekend.
