Match: Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings 45th Match, Indian Premier League 2023
Date: 3rd May 2023,
Time: 03:30 pm IST and 10:00 am GMT
Venue: Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, India
The location of this game will be Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, the home of LSG. It is difficult to determine what a good first innings total would be because there haven’t been many matches on this pitch, whether they were international or domestic T20s. However, if the pitch stays on the slower side, anything over 160–165 would be competitive.
Since the start of this season, the pitch has been on the slower side. But in the most recent game, we saw that it was extremely difficult and that batters had trouble even scoring run-a-ball, making 127 seem like a huge target. When the game begins, the weather will be partly cloudy with a high of 26 degrees Celsius.
The previous three games played on this field were losses for the Lucknow Super Giants. It is not the IPL teams’ primary home as other grounds are. Teams haven’t just switched back to the home-away system after a four-year absence; this stadium is also a newcomer to the IPL. Additionally, it has provided a challenging playing surface that has made it difficult for batters to execute their strokes.
LSG’s lineup features several strong batters. Ayush Badoni is in the middle, followed by Stoinis and Pooran at the top and Kyle Mayers at the bottom. When your batting lineup features such heavy hitters, it is a horrible idea to have a pitch like this at home. Additionally, Krunal Pandya is a skilled batsman who can hit the long ball.
By the time of this game, KL Rahul may or may not be fully healthy. His inclusion in the lineup doesn’t appear to have much of an effect, though. His striking rates are underwhelming, and if he sits out of this game, the captaincy would be missed. The primary spin bowlers to keep an eye out for are Amit Mishra and Ravi Bishnoi.
Naveen-ul-Haq, the progeny of the debate, will direct LSG’s pace attack. He is a steady pacemaker who consistently produces breakthroughs and is someone to watch out for.
KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Amit Mishra, Yash Thakur
In the previous game, MS Dhoni gave his supporters what they had been hoping for. The final two balls of the CSK inning produced two sixes. Thus, the CSK total was raised to 200 runs.
It might not have been a very high total given the bat-friendly Chepauk surface this season. However, it was a very close score, and their inability to uphold it at their home field must have slightly dented their confidence.
With several strong performances at the death, Matheesha Pathirana has demonstrated promise. He is not, however, a bowler who can consistently handle pressure and toss a tight over when the game is on the line.
The same is true for Akash Singh, a youthful and talented left-arm pacer. He can be deadly in the powerplay and gets the new ball to move. But without a veteran bowler like Shami or Boult in the lineup, the young bowlers are taking on heavy workloads much too early in their careers.
However, given the Lucknow pitch, CSK can anticipate the ball to rebound, so the batters now have to be on their toes. Conway, Gaikwad, and Dube have been reliable and in good form.
To help CSK reach a good total, they must play a mature innings because these circumstances will test them all.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana
Both sides would have the same difficulties on the field, but as Faf said in the previous game, it would turn more in the second inning, making chasing more challenging. Toss will therefore be important because there aren’t any significant adjustments to the pitch. Theekshana, Jadeja, and Moeen Ali make up CSK’s excellent spin bowling arsenal in addition to their potent batting lineup. The two teams may engage in a close contest. With greater experience playing in these conditions than LSG’s lower middle order, CSK will have the advantage going into this match.
