Match: India Women vs England Women, 3rd T20 Match, 2022.
Date: September 15th, Thursday, 2022
Time: 11:00 PM IST
Venue: County Ground, Derby.
The venue for the match is Bristol’s The County Ground. There were some big scores earlier in the summer, but the pitch has calmed down in recent weeks. It’s going to be quite difficult to catch up to a score of 140 or above.
It will be cloudy all day, with a high of 25 degrees, making it difficult for batters to get on base during the first inning of a power play.
On Saturday, England Women defeated Chester-le-Street by nine wickets, but on Tuesday, they were on the receiving end of a crushing defeat at the hands of Derby. England Women were never in control of the game and were soundly defeated after coming back from 54-5 within 10 overs.
While Sophia Dunkley (5) and Danni Wyatt (6) laid a solid foundation for the team in the first WIT20, they were unable to do so in Derby. Although Alice Capsey showed promise on Saturday, she was eventually taken out of the game due to her low batting average (4 for 16). Freya Kemp’s impressive 51 not out was the highlight of the middle and lower order for England as they reached 142-6.
Even though Freya Davies and Sophie Ecclestone took the only two wickets for England Women on Tuesday, only Lauren Bell managed to keep the economy rate in check among the seven bowlers used. Even though Bell is yet to capture a wicket in the series, the Indian Women’s hitters have shown proper respect for her bowling in both games.
The England women have not been as consistent as we have come to expect from them in recent years. Three of their last four matches in this style ended in defeat for them.
Danielle Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, Amy Jones (c & wk), Maia Bouchier, Bryony Smith, Sophie Ecclestone, Freya Kemp, Sarah Glenn, Freya Davies, Lauren Bell
As the weather turned cold and cloudy, the Indian women’s team delivered a masterful effort, eventually winning the game with 20 balls remaining to tie the series at 1. After allowing the England Women to recover in the second half of their innings, India Women batted like champions.
Smriti Mandhana’s Player of the Match Award in Derby came as no surprise, given the left-handed opener’s 13 fours in her 79 not out off of only 53 balls. Together with Shafali Verma, they put up 50 runs for the first wicket, and then team captain Harmanpreet Kaur smashed 29 not out off 22 balls to see them home.
While Renuka Singh had a rough day as the opening bowler for the Durham side on Saturday, he was able to recall the Renuka Singh who dominated at the Commonwealth Games and use that as motivation to turn things around in Derby. Along with Deepti Sharma, another opener, who took 1-21 in four overs, she finished with 1-30. Sneh Rana, a spinner, took 3-24 in Derby, giving him four wickets for the series.
With their second WIT20 title in the bag, India Women have won three of their past five matches in this tournament’s shortened format. This Tuesday’s victory was decided by a landslide.
Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Dayalan Hemalatha, Pooja Vastrakar, Richa Ghosh (wk), Kiran Navgire, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Renuka Singh
In a thrilling finish, the India Women rallied in Derby to set up this thrilling showdown in Bristol. The away team will feel confident in their prospects and believe momentum is on their favour. However, we anticipate a much stronger performance from England Women and are rooting for them to triumph.
