Squad Comparison for Australia vs West Indies

Australia

With such a potent team against the West Indies in this two-game series, Australia will undoubtedly be vying for the title of “Best Test Side in the World” once more.

David Warner and Steve Smith, two of the team’s most gifted and seasoned batsmen, will be the centre of much of the batting attention. In 96 games of Test cricket, Warner has scored 7,817 runs at an average of 46.52. Warner’s T20 World Cup performance was poor, but he recently played well against England, scoring 86 and 106 runs in two games.

Smith, who only participated in one T20 World Cup game and only scored four runs, is also eager for the opportunity to show himself.

He performed admirably against England with totals of 80* and 94, much like Warner. Smith has excelled in Test cricket, scoring 8,161 runs at an average of 60.00 in 87 games.

Given that Labuschagne, Khawaja, and Head have all been batting quite well in Sheffield Shield games, it will be intriguing to see how they all do in the series. However, they will need to prove themselves since there are so many younger and more talented batsmen rising through the ranks.

With seasoned players like Starc, Lyon, and Cummins (captain) all proving to be effective in the Test format, Australia is in secure hands when it comes to bowling. Particularly Lyon has amassed 438 wickets throughout 110 games with a respectable ER of 2.94.

Australia Playing XI

David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon

West Indies

Even though the West Indies don’t have a team that can intimidate the Australians, they will probably still cause some trouble. The team has a lot of skill, and batsmen like Brathwaite, Blackwood, and Chanderpaul have been doing an outstanding job for their nation.

Brathwaite has appeared in 79 Test matches, averaging 34.45 runs per game, giving him a wealth of experience. If the Windies are to have any chance of engaging the Australians in a genuine match, his performance as the opening batter will be essential.

There is definitely some expectation to live up to the Chanderpaul name because Tagenarine is the son of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a superstar in Windies cricket.

The younger Chanderpaul has been playing outstanding cricket thus far, and this will be his first significant Test series for his nation. He scored 119 and 56 over the course of two innings against Australia A in the exhibition game.

The top three Windies pace bowlers, Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, and Jason Holder, are without a doubt the most difficult for the Australian batters to handle. The Australians won’t take Roach and Holder, two of the squad’s most seasoned bowlers, lightly. In 73 games, Roach has already taken 252 wickets.

Joseph, who has wowed in 22 Test matches with 62 wickets and an impressive ER of 3.42, is another subject of considerable attention.

West Indies Playing XI

Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermain Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kyle Mayers, Shamarh Brooks, Roston Chase, Josh Da Silva (wk), Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, Kemar Roach

Australia vs West Indies Match Prediction

Both teams will be excited to play red-ball cricket in this Test after having unsuccessful T20 World Cups. Even though West Indies has already had several outstanding performances in this format this year, their team still lags well behind the depth and skill of the Australians. The odds are in Australia’s favour to easily win this Test.
